Sheep Shearing: A photo essay on a local North Yorkshire farm.

The wealth of interesting people and activities so close to home is endless once you start looking. I have always been curious as to how the sheep get sheared, having seen how much the dog dislikes having a trim, so asked permission and tried to stay out of the way. This is one of many skills that is potentially under threat. The business works on the volume of sheep to be sheared, and is a skill that takes time to learn in order to be able to work at speed. Those working in the agricultural industry can often find work that pays a higher wage much faster which means less people learning how to shear sheep. This is one of the things that motivates me to make pictures, to record things before they change or are lost.

I decided to record a little audio whilst shooting the project below to see whether or not it enhanced how I remember the day. After letting the project sit for awhile, I think it does, and hope it adds an extra dimension to anyone that views the images.
